Why the symptoms overlap
The mechatronic controls the clutch, so a hydraulic or actuator problem can feel like a worn clutch. Conversely, a worn clutch can force adaptation values to their limits and trigger control-related faults. Diagnosis should look at both the commanded action and the actual response.
Clues that support a clutch issue
Repeatable take-off judder, slip under load and adaptation values indicating excessive wear can support a clutch diagnosis, but only in the context of the correct transmission and test procedure.
Clues that support a mechatronic issue
Pressure-generation faults, actuator electrical faults, loss of particular gear sets or measured hydraulic behaviour outside specification can point toward the mechatronic. Wiring and power supply still need to be ruled out where relevant.
The repair sequence matters
Replacing a clutch will not repair failed hydraulic control. Replacing a mechatronic will not restore worn clutch friction. The goal of diagnosis is to prevent expensive parts being used as a test.
