Why a DSG can shudder from a stop
Unlike a torque-converter automatic, a dual-clutch gearbox physically engages a clutch to move away. If clutch friction, control or engine torque delivery is irregular, the driver can feel vibration or pulsing during take-off.
Possible causes
- Clutch wear or heat damage
- Clutch contamination
- Adaptation values at or near limits
- Mechatronic pressure or actuator control faults
- Engine misfire or poor low-speed torque delivery
- Worn engine or transmission mounts
Why adaptation alone is not a repair
Basic settings can be required after specific service or repair operations, but resetting learned values does not restore worn friction material or repair a hydraulic fault. The underlying condition needs to be established first.
