Why the exact transmission matters
Volkswagen Group uses several dual-clutch transmission families. A dry-clutch DQ200 does not have the same maintenance procedure as a wet-clutch DQ250, DQ381 or DQ500, and longitudinal Audi S tronic units such as DL382 and DL501 use different layouts again. We identify the transmission before selecting fluid, filters, clutch parts, mechatronic components or test procedures.
That matters because similar symptoms can have different causes. A hesitation at take-off can involve clutch wear, adaptation, hydraulic control, engine torque delivery or worn mounts. A gearbox warning can relate to pressure generation, actuator control, electrical supply, wiring or internal mechanical failure. The repair should follow the fault path, not the symptom alone.
What is checked during DSG work?
The exact checks depend on the job, but our process can include a full transmission scan, freeze-frame information, measured values, clutch adaptation data, fluid level and condition, leak inspection, wiring and connector checks, power and earth verification, hydraulic pressure behaviour, temperature values and a controlled road test.
When should you book?
Book an assessment if the vehicle shudders on take-off, hesitates selecting Drive or Reverse, displays a transmission warning, flashes the gear display, slips under load, shifts harshly, loses selected gears or has an unknown DSG service history. Continuing to drive with an active transmission fault can turn a smaller issue into a larger repair.
